Boao Forum for Asia elects ex-pres. Arroyo as member of its board
Former President and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been elected as a new member of the board of directors of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
The election was held on Monday, April 9, during the General Meeting of Members of the BFA held in Hainan, China.
Arroyo was one of the 12 newly elected members of the 19-man board, now headed by former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
In an interview earlier, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana said Arroyo replaced former President Fidel Ramos, who was lessening his travels due to his age.
Ramos turned 90 years old last month.
He was one of the eight outgoing members of the previous council of advisors of the BFA.
In the Resolution of the General Meeting of Members, Ramos and the seven others were honored with the title of BFA honorary members “in recognition of their outstanding and substantive contributions to the forum since its inception.”
