Better year ahead! Rex Gatchalian Valenzuela’s social housing project to start in 2021

Over 1,600 low-income families residing in Valenzuela City’s danger zones can look forward to living in better homes next year.
Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian announced on Friday, December 4, the start of the construction of a 34-building socialized housing project in January next year.
The buildings will rise on a six-hectare property in Laon, which the city government bought for P123.4 million.
“After 37 years, finally, one of our biggest informal settler communities in the First District will be transformed into a formal community… [In 2021,] Laon, Veinte Reales’ 2,000 families now living in shanties will move into these high-rise units,” Gatchalian said.
The socialized housing project will feature a 36-sq.m. and 42-square meter units. The city government will implement a rent-to-own scheme, where homeowners can pay for the unit in 30 years.
According to the local government, the monthly amortization for a 36-sq. m. unit in the first year will amount to P 1,729.86, while the 42-sq.m. unit will cost PHP 1,915.59.
