The third general hospital in Bataan province will soon rise from a 3,000-square meter plot of land donated by Fiesta Communities, Inc. in Limay town, Bataan Rep. Joet Garcia said on Monday.
“The proposed Limay hospital is envisioned to be set up as the trauma center of the province and the region with its proximity to several industries,” Garcia was quoted as saying in a Punto Central Luzon report.
“It will also act as the referral facility of the proposed Bataan High School for Sports, the Bataan Sports Training Center and the soon-to-be constructed Philippine Sports Training Center,” the congressman said.
According to the report, the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) in Balanga City caters to infectious diseases and other medical services while the Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital serves psychiatric cases and mental wellness services.
BGHMC was designated exclusive facility for coronavirus disease cases during the pandemic.
“All these taken together with the responsibility of the national government to provide services or facilities that the local government unit concerned is unable to adequately provide, justify the establishment and operation of the Limay General Hospital under the DOH,” Garcia said.
He said an initial fund of P50 million from the Department of Public Works and Highways and P100 million from the provincial government was already available for the project.
Garcia is the principal author of a bill creating the 100-bed capacity Limay General Hospital.
