The provincial veterinary office in Balanga City has announced that the sentinel pig program of the Department of Agriculture would continue in Bataan province.
Dr. Alberto Venturina, provincial veterinarian, said the department started distributing sentinel piglets on August 23, first in Morong, then in Limay on August 30, Bagac on September 1, Balanga City on September 6, Orion on September 8 and the latest in Mariveles City on September 20.
Sentinel piglets are given to farms for 40 days to ensure the absence of the African swine fever virus in the area.
Venturina said each town received 150 piglets with three distributed to each farmer beneficiary plus nine sacks of feed.
The provincial veterinarian’s office is preparing more piglets for the towns of Pilar, Hermosa, Dinalupihan, Abucay, Orani, and Samal.
