Bataan Day observance: US diplomat hails bravery of WW II soldiers

The United States Embassy in the Philippines on Friday honored the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II, saying they should inspire today’s leaders to face modern challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

US charge d’ affaires John Law conveyed his message saluting Filipino and American soldiers who fought during the battle of Bataan in a message during the virtual observance of Bataan Day or the Day of Valor.

“Today for reasons we all understand, we’ve gathered virtually in the face of a new type of challenge. But though we are not there in person, we are there in spirit,” he said.

“And even as we face the trials and circumstances created by the pandemic, we still draw strength and inspiration from the experiences and examples of those brave men and women,” Law added.

He said the US and Filipino troops “gave all they had without hesitation.

“They gave more than could be humanly expected for the freedoms of both of our countries,” Law said.
