Bataan Cong Roman visits war-torn Marawi City
Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman visited last Monday the war torn city of Marawi on Mindanao island to look into the rehabilitation program of government.
According to a statement Wednesday on Roman’s Facebook page, the politiko’s visit, along with other lawmakers, was in exercise of their “oversight functions.”
Roman chairs the House Committee on Disaster Management.
The Facebook post said the main purpose of the ocular inspection “was to see if the government agencies tasked to rehabilitate Marawi City are delivering on their promises.”
Marawi City was reduced to rubble after a five-month war ensued their starting May 2017 when authorities detected the entry of Islamic State-inspired terrorists from the Maute and Abu Sayyaf Groups.
According to Roman’s Facebook post, the legislator “wants the people of the war-devastated city to feel and know that the government is fulfilling its duty and promises.”
It also bared that in a matter of two weeks, Roman’s Committee on Disaster Management was able to help the National Housing Authority and the Task Force Bangon Marawi fast-track the purchase of land in Barangay Kilala for the immediate construction of permanent homes for displaced residents.
The three versions of the Marawi Compensation Bills are also being heard currently by the committee, and awaiting clearance from the Committee on Appropriations.(END)
