Bataan Cong Roman stresses value of IPs
Bataan 1st District Geraldine Roman expressed Friday how she values the country’s Indigenous Peoples as she joins the celebration of the IP month this October.
“I have always believed in fighting for the rights of our Indigenous Peoples. They are, after all, an important part of our country’s culture and heritage,” Roman said on her Facebook page.
“We must not forget that their ancestors played an integral role in some of the most defining moments of our country’s history,” she added.
The transgender politiko acknowledged that IPs “have a great role to play” today “in strengthening and developing our country.”
“We must ensure that they are given the opportunities to do so,” she said.
To back this point, she mentioned filing a bill in 2016 “that will increase the representation of the Indigenous Peoples” in the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
“Their voices, after all, deserve to be heard, and it is important that we let them know that their opinions and ideas MATTER,” Roman said.
