Bataan Cong Roman stresses preparedness after tsunami strikes Indonesia anew
Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman stressed anew the importance of disaster preparedness after a disastrous tsunami struck Indonesia again before Christmas.
On her Facebook page, the politiko said Monday that Filipinos “must always remember that just like in Indonesia, disasters can happen in our country anytime.”
Roman, who chairs the House Committee on Disaster Management, called on “each and every Filipino to be always prepared… Know what to do before, during, and after a disaster.”
A tsunami struck the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia on Saturday after a volcanic eruption, leaving more than 400 people dead and nearly 160 others missing.
Almost 1,500 were also injured and 22,000, displaced.
“There are many unexpected dangers that may arise at any moment. The tsunami that hit Indonesia on Saturday gave little indication that it was coming,” Roman said.
“I am deeply saddened to know that there may be hundreds of victims that were killed or injured. My heart goes to their families, and I hope that those who are missing will still be found, alive and healthy,” she added.(END)
