Bataan Cong Roman “fought hard” for Increased pension for war veterans
Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman “fought hard” for the passage of her bill that sought to increase the monthly pension of senior war veterans, a statement on her Facebook page over the weekend said.
“In June 2016, Cong. Geraldine B. Roman filed a bill that would increase the monthly pension of senior veterans from 5,000 pesos to 20,000 pesos,” the statement said.
“For over two years, she fought hard to make sure this bill passes the House and the Senate. And the long fight was ABSOLUTELY worth it!” it added.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11164 on Dec. 20 last year, increasing the monthly pension of veterans of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars to 20,000 pesos.
“Now, our war veterans can feel that indeed, their countrymen appreciate all their sacrifices and the risks they had to undergo in order for us Filipinos to enjoy the freedom that we have today,” the statement said.
The Bataan lawmaker “has always maintained that our senior veterans sacrificed so much so that Filipinos can live in a free and democratic society.”
“The least we can do, she contended, is to ensure that their pension is enough to augment their resources to help with their living expenses,” the statement said.
