Bataan Cong Roman calls for probe on intercepted turtles at NAIA
Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman said Wednesday she is calling for an immediate investigation on the recent interception of more than 1,500 live turtles at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
On her Facebook page, Roman slammed as “cruel” and “heartless” what has been done to the exotic animals “for the sake of profit.”
“Bakit kailangan itong gawin? It is illegal. It is harming an endangered species for the sake of profit,” the politiko said as she shared a report of CNN Philippines about the incident.
According to the news report, the turtles were wrapped in duct tape and packed in four suitcases that arrived from Hong Kong. The luggage were abandoned.
“How people could engage in such an illicit trade is beyond my understanding and comprehension. Do they really have to do this? Are the law not clear to them?” Roman said.
In calling for a probe, Roman said “all lawbreakers should be caught and get penalized.”
“Let us never let this happen again. Let the full implementation of the law be put in place at the earliest possible time,” she said.(END)
