Bataan Cong Garcia’s bill to upgrade Mariveles Mental Hospital earns committee nod
Bataan 2nd District Representative Jose Enrique Garcia’s bill seeking to expand and upgrade the Mariveles Mental Hospital (MMH) has passed the House Committee on Health.
House Bill 7893, titled, “An Act Expanding and Upgrading the Services of the Mariveles Mental Hospital in Mariveles, Bataan, To Include the Operation of a Level 1 General Ward with 100 Bed Capacity, Renaming the Same as Mariveles Health and Wellness Institute, and Appropriating Funds Therefor,” was approved by the committee Tuesday, “subject to style and amendment.”
Garcia filed the bill last June.
On his Facebook account, Garcia said that once enacted into law, the hospital will have an expanded capacity of 700 beds.
In the explanatory note of the bill, Garcia said the MMH is currently a 500-bed Custodial Psychiatric Care Facility which is directly supervised by the Regional Health Director.
It caters not only to Central Luzon but also the surrounding provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet and even Metro Manila, he added.
