Arroyo regrets passing of former Cong. Datumanong
Former president and Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has expressed her regret on the passing of former Maguindanao 2nd Rep. Simeon Ampatuan Datumanong who died last nighttime of February 28.
The former also served as Department of Justice and Public Works chief during the lady politiko’s term.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family of former Secretary and Representative Simeon Ampatuan Datumanong,” Arroyo added.
“Of Muslim leaders of the country after the time of former President Diosdado Macapagal, Secretary Datumanong was the first to hold Cabinet posts,” the Pampanga solon added.
Mayor Zamsamin Ampatuan of Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao first broke the news of Datumanong’s death at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The former is one of Datumanong’s relatives in government service.
Ampatuan said the Muslim leader was confined in the Philippine Heart Center for about two weeks before he passed away due to cardiac arrest at 9:25 p.m.
“Among all Filipino Muslims, he has held the most important Cabinet posts, positions that required the highest levels of integrity. I appointed him Secretary of Public Works and Highways and then Secretary of Justice because of his reputation for uprightness. He was true to his reputation,” Arroyo stressed.
“Sim was a steady and strong ally. More than that, he was a strong voice for the equality of our Filipino Muslims. He exemplified the true Muslim spirit: committed, courageous, sincere and loyal. It was a privilege to have worked with him and share a strong friendship,” she added.
