Arroyo pushes international visitor assistance bill
Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s bill on international visitor assistance has gotten the nod of the House committee on tourism.
The Pampanga politiko said the proposed measure aims to boost tourism in the country by creating an intergovernmental task force that will assist foreign visitors.
Arroyo’s bill also mandates a multi-lingual travel and tourism information program to facilitate international visitors’ travel in the Philippines.
“This bill is a humble attempt in this regard by establishing an intergovernmental task force for international visitor assistance to make the Philippines a premiere travel and tourism destination in the world,” Arroyo said.
“The tourism industry has been branded as an ‘engine of economic growth’ given its capacity to boost and jumpstart any economy especially countries like the Philippines. That is why there is a need for government to adopt and implement an integrated approach in tourism development to be able to realize its full potential as an important economic tool necessary for national development,” she added.
