Arroyo denies advocating cutting tariff rates on meat imports

Aug 9, 2018 @ 1:33

Former President and now Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has clarified that she is not pushing for lower tariff rates on meat imports.

Arroyo made the clarification during her meeting Wednesday, August 8, with the multi-industry alliance Samahan ng Industriya at Agrikultura (SINAG) led by Rosendo So.

She explained that there were other “more substantive drivers” of inflation as cited in the Philippine Statistics (PSA) survey.

Earlier reports came out quoting Arroyo to have proposed cutting of tariff rates on importation of meat as well as fish products in order to control rising prices of goods.

In the same meeting, Arroyo urged SINAG to help the government lower the prices of goods to ease inflation.
