Arnold Vegafria on Olangapo mayoral race: Call it fate
Talent manager and Miss World Philippines National Director Arnold Vegafria shared his reasons for running for the mayoral post in Olangapo.
On instagram post, he also shared his vision for the city where he spent his formative years.
“Today marks a new chapter in my professional career.
After many eventful decades of carving my niche as an entrepreneur and showbiz impresario, I heed the call of the people of Olongapo City for an enlightened leadership.
Call it destiny. Call it fate. Somehow, I know that I can never turn my back on my roots, on my humble origins that have shaped me into the person who stands before you today.
Not many people may know it, but I was born and spent a great deal of my formative years in Olongapo City. I knew what it was like growing in the bustling and progressive city that served as a second home to thousands of US servicemen who were deployed in the city as part of the US Bases Treaty.
I knew what it was like during the city’s boom when it was a hotbed of commerce and tourism, when people from all over the country and all over the world flocked there to revel in the sights and sounds that bring to mind the gaiety and festive glam of the city.
Sadly, those days are long gone, and what was once a paradise had turned into a ghost city on the verge of decadence and desolation.
My dream is simple: I want to bring back the glory days of Olongapo City. I envision a radical transformation of the city’s skyline and major infrastructures with the goal of revitalizing the city’s long-dormant tourism industry and its other key economic and industrial zones.
I want to see my city well-lit at night, still brimming with activity and vitality, a safe haven where tourists and natives alike can jumpstart a new wave of cultural reawakening.
As I heed this higher calling, I realize that the very core of my new role as a public servant is to be the voice of the people—their channel to voice out their grievances and other sentiments.
I believe that all my past experiences as a leader and business visionary have led me here today to fulfill my higher purpose to give back to the city that nurtured me during my childhood years.
To the people of Olongapo City, thank you for your trust and confidence. In the coming months, I hope to be given more opportunities for you to get to know me better, so that I can share with you my dreams and aspirations for YOUR brighter future,” he said.
