91% of Bulacan barangays still infested with drugs
CITY OF MALOLOS – Bulacan has now 52 drug-free barangays after three more villages have been declared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) as “cleared” of illegal drugs, a police official said on Tuesday.
Police Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said the 52 out of the province’s 569 barangays have satisfactorily complied with the parameters of a “drug cleared barangay” in accordance with Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation No. 3, known as Strengthening the Implementation of Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
“The latest villages that were declared drug-cleared by PDEA on Monday (July 15) were Barangay Tawiran in Obando, Barangay Inaon in Pulilan, and Barangay Baraka in Norzagaray,” Bersaluna said.
Bersaluna said as part of the intensified campaign against illegal drugs, a reformation program dubbed as “Bahay Pagbabago” have been adopted by Bulacan Provincial Police Office (PPO).
The program is community-based recovery and wellness that serves as an effective mechanism or measure for identified drug personalities and those who surrendered in “Oplan Tokhang”.
“It will help them to mend their lives, gain back the trust and confidence of their family, re-integrate to the society and become productive new citizens and promote the participation of the community in suppression of drug abuse and drug trafficking,” Bersaluna said.
Since September 2016, the Bulacan PPO has recorded 8,304 persons who have undergone recovery and wellness program (RWP) with 5,426 of them under Bahay Pagbabago.
“Bulacan Police is firm on its relentless crackdown of illegal drug trade and illegal drug personalities in the province,” Bersaluna said.
“The proliferation of illegal drugs and substance abuse has resulted to illnesses, loss of moral values, increased in crimes and even caused lives. The police and the community, together as competent partners we can win the battle on the war against illegal drugs. The police cannot do it alone, we need you to help us win it,” he added.(PNA)
