The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has handed over fuel subsidies to 870 members of the tricycle operators and drivers’ associations (TODAs) in Central Luzon.
According to Anthony Nuyda, DILG regional head, members of the TODA from the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija received the initial fuel subsidy that could help them cope with the rising fuel prices.
Each qualified TODA member received P1,000 in fuel subsidy. Out of the total beneficiaries, 645 are from Bataan, 176 from Bulacan, and 49 from Nueva Ecija.
The fuel subsidy was distributed through the Land Bank of the Philippines in the three provinces of Central Luzon and the distribution will continue, according to Nuyda.
He also mentioned that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Bank of the Philippines were responsible for the distribution of the subsidy to the TODA member-beneficiaries, while the funds came from the Department of Budget and Management.
The DILG, as part of the committee, submitted the list of beneficiaries that came from the local government units, but the final approval and verification came from the national level, Nuyda added.
The fuel subsidy is aimed to help the tricycle operators and drivers’ associations to mitigate the impact of the rising fuel prices on their livelihood.
