Some 800 fisherfolk in Bataan province severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic received cash and food aid from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), according to the Philippine Information Agency.
They received cash aid amounting to P3,000 and food items worth P2,000, an official said.
The report said the beneficiaries came from the towns of Abucay, Bagac, Morong, Hermosa, Limay, Mariveles, Orion, Pilar and Samal and the city of Balanga.
“Through the Department of Agriculture’s Cash and Food Subsidy for Marginal Farmers and Fishers which was funded by the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, each fisherfolk got P3,000 cash and P2,000 worth of food items like rice, chicken, and eggs,” BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz was quoted as saying.
“The beneficiaries were identified by BFAR with the assistance of their respective local governments,” Cruz added.
