The fifth member of the team of rescuers deployed to San Miguel town in Bulacan province and initially reported missing is confirmed dead, according to San Miguel Mayor Roderick Tiongson.
The bodies of the five rescuers were found during the onslaught of Typhoon Karding.
The incident happened in Barangay Camias, based on earlier reports.
During a Laging Handa briefing, the mayor said the five members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office died after they were hit by a collapsing wall during the rescue operation.
The town’s barangays remained submerged in floodwater as of Monday due to the typhoon, and more than 1,000 residents were evacuated, according to Tiongson.
