A total of 5,000 students in Apalit town in Pampanga province received the first tranche of a scholarship program under Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco.
The students received the first half of the financial assistance over the weekend amounting to a total of P10 million, officials said in a Sun Star Pampanga report.
The report said the mayor personally distributed the cash grants in two separate payouts earlier this month.
Tetangco said the local government allocated a total of P20 million for this year’s scholarship program.
The cash aid is distributed per semester and this weekend’s payout is the first of the two, he said in the Sun Star report.
“Mangarap kayo. Libre lang naman ‘yan kaya ‘wag ipagkait sa sarili. Pero sabayan ng sipag sa pag-aaral ang pangarap para matupad ‘yan,” Tetangco was quoted as saying.
