2 electrocuted during Apalit’s Apung Iru festival

Apalit town’s Apung Iru fluvial procession in celebration of the feast of St. Peter took a tragic turn after two devotees were electrocuted when their motorized boat hit a high-tension wire on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Punto Central Luzon report, the electrocution accident took place along the Barangay Sulipan stretch of the Pampanga River.
One of the fatalities was identified by his alias Nyote Ponsenes, about 40 years old, helper and native of Manila. The other victim, also male, about 25-30 years old, has remained unidentified.
Four other devotees sustained minor injuries, according to investigators.
Police said a protruding metal portion of the boat touched a high-tension cable of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, causing the motor to explode, electrocuting those on board.
