12 barangays in Masantol suffer gutter-deep floods after heavy rains
Torrential rains left 12 barangays in Masantol town in Pampanga province submerged in gutter-deep floodwater on Wednesday, according to a bulletin from provincial disaster officials.
Among the affected barangays were San Isidro Matua, Santa Lucia Matua, Santa Lucia Wakas, Sta. Lucia Paguiba, Sta. Lucia Anac, Sto. Nino, Bebe Anak, San Agustin, Bagang, Sagrada, Nugui and Sapang Kawayan, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported.
State meteorologists said the rains were brought by the southwest monsoon affecting large parts of Luzon due to blowing winds from Typhoon Fabian.
As of Wednesday, the typhoon was located some 740 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 160 kph, according the the weather bureau.
Disaster and emergency units were put on standby to prepare for rescue of affected communities.
