10K families served by community pantry launched by Arayat mayor, wife
The mayor of Arayat town in Pampanga and his wife have launched a community pantry called “Arayat Community Express” in the municipality to help their constituents who are struggling during the pandemic.
The project was kick-started by Arayat Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino and wife Madeth, according to a Sun Star Pampanga report.
The report quoted Madeth, also the executive assistant of Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda, as saying that almost 10,000 families had received food packs from their initiative.
Each pack contains five kilos of rice, noodles, canned goods, face masks, face shields and alcohol.
“We are given another chance in life after we’ve recovered from Covid-19 so we vowed to ourselves to dedicate this new life to public service,” Madeth said in the report.
“We are encouraging people to stay at home but if we follow the system used by community pantries today, they will be forced to go out and even mingle with other people to get their goods, so we decided to do the traditional distribution method,” she was quoted as saying.
