Pope Francis names Cubao Bishop Ongtioco to oversee Malolos diocese
Pope Francis has appointed Cubao Bishop Honesto Flores Ongtioco as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Malolos, following the death of Bishop Jose Francisco Oliveros on Friday, May 11.
According to CBCPnews, Papal Nuncio Archbishop Gabrielle Caccia, through his Charge d’ Affaires in Manila, Msgr. Arnaldo Catalan, communicated the decree to Malolos vicar-general Msgr. Pablo Legaspi Jr., giving Ongtioco the power to hold office as apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Malolos, including “all the faculties and rights to exercise the office of a diocesan bishop.”
Marc Cardinal Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, issued the decree from Rome on May 12, a day after Oliveros’ death.
Meanwhile, CBCPnews said that Oliveros, the fourth bishop of Malolos, will be laid to rest on May 17 at the crypt of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Malolos after a requiem Mass to be presided over by Archbishop Romulo Valles, CBCP President, at 9am.
