Police rule out explosives in Bulacan water tank collapse
Investigators from the Bulacan Police said there was no improvised explosive device used to destroy the tank of the San Jose del Monte City (SJDMC) water district which injured 44 people and killed 4 others, including two infant girls.
Based on the probe ordered by SJDM Mayor Arthur Robes after the collapse, the wear and tear on the metal starting at the 14 x 13 meter-high water tank’s knot hole, may have caused the blast, and not an explosive device.
The water tank collapsed around 3:30 a.m. on Friday and brought big waves of water that swept away structures in Barangay Muzon.
Meanwhile, Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado ordered the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Disaster Office to inspect all the tanks of water districts in the province to prevent a similar incident in the future.
“This is an eye opener. Public safety is our topmost concern and it is mandatory for all water district officials to inspect their tanks especially the old ones,” Alvarado said.
