New San Fernando exit to ease impact of ‘carmageddon’
Officials of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) are pinning hopes on the proposed Sto. Tomas town exit, which will prevent the expected “carmageddon” in Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa) within 5 to 7 years.
NLEx Board Director and Laus Group of Companies chair and chief executive officer Levy Laus stressed the importance of the project during a gathering with the media at San Fernando City in Pampanga on Wednesday, December 20.
“As of now, the NLEx board has already approved the opening of the exit. It is just up to the Department of Public Works and Highways to implement the road works leading to the exit in Barangay Sto. Rosario Pau,” Laus said.
Laus said that a heavier traffic situation looms at the major thoroughfare with all the fast development happening in San Fernando and the whole of Pampanga.
By opening an interchange in nearby Sto. Tomas town, motorists will have another route option once the foreseen “carmageddon”results to closure of a major road.
It is also expected to decrease the heavy volume of vehicles traversing Jasa and other busy thoroughfares in the City of San Fernando.
The pending construction of the said interchange, which is some four kilometers away from both San Fernando and San Simon exits, is part of the Phase 3 project connecting San Simon exit to Dinalupihan, Bataan, and Laus hopes that it will be approved.
