House Speaker Arroyo takes part in tree planting activity in Pampanga
House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led Friday a tree planting activity in her home province of Pampanga.
The event is part of the culminating activity of the Civil Service Commission 118th anniversary celebration, aimed at saving the Manila Bay and restoring the remaining forestlands and watersheds in Central Luzon.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region III and the Provincial Government of Pampanga partnered with the CSC in the said event.
At Friday’s event held in Barangay Villa Maria in Porac town, Arroyo, who was former President and is currently Pampanga 2nd District Representative, praised the organizing agencies for spearheading such an environmental initiative as she took note of the landslide tragedy in Benguet in the aftermath of typhoon Ompong last weekend.
Arroyo said the messages of Ompong are very clear: to plant trees, and exercise responsible mining.
Government employees and volunteers from the region participated in the tree growing activity.
