Bulacan police officer killed in anti-kidnapping operation
A ranking official of the Philippine National Police–Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) died while another was wounded on Saturday during a rescue operation of kidnapping victims in Bulacan.
The fatality was identified as Supt. Arthur Masungsong, chief of the PNP-AKG’s Luzon field unit. His colleague, Chief Insp. Reynaldo Lumactod was injured.
Lumactod was brought to a hospital for treatment. Masungsong’s body, meanwhile, was brought to St. Ignatius Funeral Parlor near Camp Crame in Quezon City
The two police officials were part of the team who led an anti-kidnapping operation in Angat, Bulacan around 1:10 a.m.
According to police report, the suspects found the PNP-AKG vehicle carrying Masungsong and Lumactod along a road in Barangay Sta. Lucia and fired at the operatives.
An exchange of fire ensued, which resulted in the death of four suspects as well as Masungsong, and the wounding of Lumactod.
The victims were successfully rescued by PNP-AKG personnel. It was one of the many successful anti-kidnapping operations led by Masungsong in the past.
PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa is expected to visit the slain official.
