Bulacan gov initiates biosecurity talk in province
To ensure food security in the province, Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado recently engaged stakeholders of the poultry, quail, duck and hog industries in a discussion on how to sustain the key livelihood areas in the province.
The local government partnered with experts from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to talk about the best practices in maintaining their livelihood in the dialogue dubbed as “Usapang Biosecurity: Pangangalaga sa Industriya ng Panghahayupan,” held at Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in Malolos City.
According to Alvarado, the initiative aims to serve not only the individual stakeholders but the province’s economy as well.
“We believe it is not only food security that is at stake here but also the primary livelihood that sustains and invigorates the economy of the province,” Alvarado said.
According to DA Undersecretary for Operations Ariel Cayanan, the discussion on food security is important because problems in food production may affect around 10 million people with hunger.
Biosecurity also teaches stakeholders how to deal with the threats of climate change, mass movement, intensified animal production and microbial mutations.
