Assistant of Nueva Ecija gov killed in ambush

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed the 38-year-old assistant of Nueva Ecija Governor Czarina Umali on Sunday night.

According to reports, Mary Anne Hernandez and her husband Carlito, 45, were attacked by the assailants in Barangay Marcos in Talavera town around 6:30 p.m.

The couple reportedly stopped at a gas station on board their sports utility vehicle when a gunman approached Mary Anne and shot her multiple times, killing her on the spot.

According to police, her husband was hit by the bullets meant for Mary Anne.

Police said that according to the witnesses, the gunman was wearing a helmet. The gunmen escaped on a motorcycle with another rider who was also wearing a helmet.

Mary Anne and Carlito’s children were also on board their vehicle with a househelp when the assailants attacked them. All three were unhurt, according to police.

Police have yet to establish the motive for the attack. Investigations are ongoing to identify the shooters.
